William Reaves Obituary

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15: 58

William Henry Reaves was born on March 6, 1938, in Fork, SC to the late Henry and Ella Rebecca Smith Reaves. He slipped into eternal peace and rest on December 4, 2023. Jack, as he was affectionately known, was the first son of eleven children. He joined Shiloh United Methodist Church in Fork SC, at a very young age. Jack was educated in the Dillon County Public School System and graduated in 1956 from Columbus High School (presently Lake View High School).

Willam moved to Atlantic City after he graduated to begin his career. He was employed by the State of New Jersey where he worked as a barber thereby making Trenton, New Jersey his home. While working as a barber for the state of New Jersey, Jack opened his own barber shop known as Clinton ’s Barber Shop. Upon his retirement from the state, he worked full -time at the shop. Jack always enjoyed helping people whether it was a free haircut, dinner, or money. William was a member of Greater Mt. Zion AME Church in Trenton, NJ. William ’s greatest compassion was working as a Trustee for his church. All they had to do was say Brother Reaves and they knew without a doubt it was going to get done. One of Brother Reaves’ proudest moments is when they honored him for Black Excellence in February 2022. Also, in February of 2022 he moved to Danville, VA to live with his daughter and her family. One of the things that Jack enjoyed while living with his daughter was spending time playing with his great grandson, EJ, who was in the home with him. William enjoyed attending Silver Creek Baptist Church in Danville, VA. He also enjoyed traveling with his daughter and grandsons.

William was preceded in death by three sisters: Esther Parker, Gloria Jean Reaves -Brown, and Mae Lesta Reaves -Bethea; and three brothers: Maceo Reaves, Carlton Reaves, and Larry Reaves.
