After a hard-fought and courageous battle, Mr. Sylvester J. Brown was called to eternal rest on Friday, May 28, 2021, at MUSC Florence, SC. Sylvester was born on February 16, 1943, to the late Mother Flossie Brown and Mr. Sylvester Brown, Sr.
Sylvester was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He graduated from Dillon County School system and later earned an Associate Degree in Business. Sylvester enlisted in the United States Army and valiantly served his country with two tours in Vietnam.
Sylvester was a hard worker with a great work ethic. He was also an accomplished mechanic and enjoyed fishing. Sylvester was a proud member of Palmetto Masonic Lodge #397.
Sylvester was proceeded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Flossie Brown; stepfather John Shedrick; father-in-law Rev. Hassie Gerald; mother-in-law Mrs. Essie Gerald, two brothers, one sister, and five brothers-in-law.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife Doris Brown; their daughters Tiffaney (Derrick) Ashelee (Tony), Cynthia, and Pamela; sons Ronald, Nathaniel, and Raymond; a loving sister Mrs. Mary Lois Johnson; 30 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, a niece Precious; and nephews Antonio, Kevin, and Jeremy.
Sergeant Brown remained strong and brave until his final breath. Sylvester had a loving bond with his youngest daughter and faithful caregiver, Ashelee (aka Gertrue).
