Steven Van Williams was born in Marion County, South Carolina on June 16, 1961. He was the only son of six children born to the late Glad Williams and Mae Ceal Hughes Williams.

He went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2019 at McLeod Hospital Cheraw, Cheraw, South Carolina. Stevie was raised in Centerville Baptist Church, Centenary, South Carolina. Also known as "Stevie", he attended Terrell's Bay School in Centenary, South Carolina and because of seizure disorders and other challenges, he was not able to complete his formal education.

Due to the need of specialized care and treatment from various doctors and other medical professionals, Stevie was placed in The Rehabilitation Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Several years later, he was transferred to the Florence Pee Dee Center, Florence, South Carolina. From 1993 to 2010, Stevie resided at the Gaffney House in Marion, South Carolina. When Stevie became less effective in providing for his own personal care, he took up residence at Dundee Manor in Bennettsville, South Carolina. While at Dundee Manor, he experienced even more serious medical issues; however, through it all, he never complained. Despite all of the obstacles in his life, Stevie would say "I am alright".  Stevie leaves to cherish his loving memories a loving family including his mother Mae Ceal Williams of Centenary, SC, four sisters - Carol W. (John) Tindal, Manning, SC, Ethel W. “Cookie” Rush, Marion, SC, Glaris (Jerome Foxworth) Bethea, Centenary, SC and Sylvia W.
