Shirley Raeford Davis Obituary

"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies, strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Give her the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:10, 25, 26, and 31.

Shirley R. Davis was born on June 22, 1940 to Ellen Jackson Reaves and Odell Reaves. She transitioned from this life on November 21, 2020.

Shirley Mae as she was affectionately called, attended the public schools of Marion County, SC. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized and joined Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church in Mullins, SC. She served faithfully on the Senior Choir, Missionary Society, and she could be depended upon to help carry out the will of God.

She was employed for several years at Anvil Knitwear in Mullins, SC and briefly worked at Troy’s Learning Corner in Mullins, SC.

Shirley Mae’s greatest joy was to see her family members come to Jesus Christ and serve Him diligently. She prayed daily for each one to turn their life over to Him.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She loved to cook and was known in the family for her Sunday dinners.

Shirley Mae was proceeded in death by her husband Rev. John Davis, her parents Ellen Jackson Reaves and Odell Reaves, a son Allen Raeford, a daughter Karon Raeford, 3 brothers: Timothy Reaves, Charles Timmons, and Rev. Andrew Reaves.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her sons Timothy Raeford of Reading, PA and Christopher Raeford (Dianne) of Mullins, SC, a daughter Sharon Williams of Mullins, SC;  3 sisters: Betty Hickson of Reading, PA, Dorothy Hayes of Mullins, SC, and Geraldine Hudson of New York City, NY; a sister in-law Gladys Reaves of Mullins, SC; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, former spouse Wayne Raeford, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends.
