Samuel Lee "Meat Head" Simmons

Mr. Samuel Lee “Buddy Roe” Simmons departed this life on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at his residence after an illness. Mr. Samuel Lee Simmons was the son of the late Leona Legette and the late Robert Woodberry, Sr. and the adopted son of the late Dillon and the late Derome Simmons of Mullins, SC.

He attended the Marion County Public Schools. Sam worked in several capacities including as bus driver, truck driver, US Postal Service worker and the occupation he loved most, was working at Troy ’s Funeral Home for 34 years. The Troy ’s were his family as well as his friend. He was a member of the Bethlehem Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Lake View, SC. In 1965, he met and married the love of his life, Henrietta Snow and to this union two children were born.

Sam was preceded in death by his mother and father, his adoptive parents, and several siblings.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 58 years, Evangelist Henrietta Simmons of the home; 2 daughters: Tina (Michael) Ferline of Mullins SC and Shelia Simmons of Anderson SC; 3 grandchildren: Michael (Courtney) Ferline, Jr. of Mullins SC, She ’Tina Ferline of Columbia SC, Lateigra (Orville) Loplante of Florence SC; 3 great -grandchildren: Treshawn Ferline, Oriel Loplante, Oriah Loplante, all of Florence SC; 2 special pets that Sam loved and called them his great -grands, Pee Wee and Summer; 4 brothers: Robert Woodberry, Jr., Alexander (Gloria) Woodberry, Wallace (Joyce) Woodberry, all of Mullins SC and Kenneth (Alice) Woodberry of Texas; 3 sisters: Annie Mae Nelson, Faye Woodberry, both of Mullins SC and Marjorie (Kenneth) Douglas of Texas; 4 sisters -in -law: Martha Snow of Jamaica NY, Zylpha Gresham of Clover SC, Annie (Harold) Utley of Columbia SC, and Monica Cooper of Dillon SC; 1 aunt Mrs. Fannie Leonard Simmons of Mullins SC; a special niece Gayle Washington of Mullins SC; 2 special cousins: Earl Simmons and Pauline Williams; a special cousin & friend, Charlie Boyd; a special son, Charles Shelton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
