Mrs. Rosa B. Thompson, daughter of the late Inez J. Jacobs, was born April 15, 1934 in Mullins, SC, Marion County. Preceded in death by her brother: Samuel J. Wright.
Rosa accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health began to decline. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Senior Missionary, Mack T. Hines Bible Institute and taught Class #1 Sunday school.
Rosa graduated from Palmetto High School, Mullins, SC and went on to graduate from Morris College, Sumter, SC with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, May 24, 1961. She was a member of Morris College’s National Alumni receiving a Service Award and Presidential Citation May 5, 2012. She also was inducted into the Morris College Basketball Hall of Fame.
Rosa loved people and had a great compassion for working with children. She specialized in Language Arts and began her career as an educator at Palmetto Elementary School, Mullins, SC. She relocated to Montezuma, GA where she taught at Macon County Training School, a middle school for a couple of years before moving on to Augusta, GA. Rosa returned to her primary school roots and taught at Barton’s Chapel Elementary School until she retired.
Rosa returned to Mullins, SC after retiring and was involved tirelessly in community activities. She was a founding member of the Kiwanis Club of Marion County. There she served as the Chairman of the Terrific Kids program, Assistant Treasurer, Fundraiser Advisor and Queen during parades and other events for the club. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Palmetto Chapter #262 since 1995 and continued working in that chapter.
Rosa leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories her children: Sons, Dhaamin Shakur,of Columbus, MS, Larry Collins of Augusta, GA, daughters, Karen R. (Allen) Myers, Atlantic City, NJ, Sharon Davis, Mullins, SC; six grands, Shameka Roberts, Galloway, NJ, Tanya Roberts, Riverdale, GA, Angelo Alston, Fremont, NC, Tara (Jerry) Adams, High Point, NC, Shante Shakur, Milton, FL, Necole Ellison, Mullins, SC; six great-grands, Shakeem Roberts, Da’zjah Roberts, Isabella Pinkley, Isaiah Shakur, Ivy Rose Horten, Shawn Pressley and a host of relatives near and far and special lifelong friends and acquaintances.
