Obituary

 

Colonel (Retired) Lannie Spencer Edwards, age 76, Mullins, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on September 7, 2020.

 

He was born to the late Gerodie Spencer and Charlotte (Eaddy) Edwards in Fork, South Carolina.

 

He attended the public schools of Dillon County, graduating from Columbus High School, Lake View, South Carolina in 1960. After graduation, Lannie attended South Carolina State College, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Lannie graduated from SCSC in 1964 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the United States Army. He served for over thirty years in the US Army and US Army Reserve, where he retired after obtaining the rank of colonel.

 

Lannie was a dedicated mathematics teacher, coach, administrator and educational consultant for over forty years. Lannie was an educator in the public schools of Lake View, Latta and Marion, South Carolina; and Public Schools of Robeson County in North Carolina; and The Southern Regional Education Board.

 

Lannie was a faithful and devoted member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Fork, South Carolina. He served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church trustee board. He was instrumental in the completion of many church projects and initiatives.

 

Survivors include: the love of his life, his wife of fifty-four years, Viola (Davis) Edwards; his son Gerard Spencer (Zenobia) Edwards; his grandson, Collin Spencer Edwards; special cousin, Monica Eaddy; aunt Virginia (Eaddy) Martin, Annie L. Bethea, Ruby Burrell, Helen (Nathan) Greene and an uncle: Rev Paul (Cora) Brown; sister-in-laws Ruthena Edwards, Florence, South Carolina; Annie Mae Monroe, South Norwalk, Connecticut; and Rosa Sample, Bridgeport, Connecticut; and a host of beloved in-laws, relatives, friends, students, and colleagues.

 

Lannie was predeceased in death by his daughter, Edwina Eugenia Edwards; and his brother, Leroy Thomas Edwards.
