Kris Ford Nelson departed this life on Thursday June 18th, 2020 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Florence, SC. Kris Lyna Ford was born on March 12th, 1966 in Newark, NJ to Rebecca and Elliott “Bobby” Ford Jr. (deceased).
Kris was educated by the Marion County school system, earning her diploma from Mullins High School in 1984. After graduating Kris attended the Chris Logan Beauty School, receiving her cosmetology license which she would later use to her own her own hair salon. She furthered her education, obtaining an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University. Spending the longevity of her career at the Marion County Probate Court Office Kris served as the Clerk of Court, eventually earning the title Associate Probate Judge. She will forever be a pillar of the community, providing assistance to anyone whom may have needed it. She dedicated her life to helping those around her, leaving an incredible mark on each person. Kris will be remembered by many as someone who would help others without anything in return.
Kris enjoyed many hobbies including shopping, doing hair, selling Paparazzi Jewelry, spending time with family, and most of all cruising. She planned many trips through her famous “Good Times Travel Group,” deeming her the “Cruise Queen.”
Kris is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Polly and Daniel “Mack” Carmichael; her paternal grandparents: Merlin and Elliott Ford.
Kris leaves cherished memories to her husband Anthony “Tony” Nelson of Mullins, SC; mother, Rebecca “Beck” Ford of Mullins, SC; two daughters: Kivette “Kivi” Wright and Ja’Queisha “Queisha” Wright, both of Richmond, VA; two brothers: Elliott “Tater” Ford III and Yatch Roberts, both of Charlotte NC; a mother-in-law, Ruby Dayes of Mullins SC; one sister in law Latrish Dayes; one step-daughter, Olivia Howard of Marion, SC; two step-grandchildren of Marion, SC; Aunts: Willadean (Robert) Harrison of Blackstone VA; Gloria C. Hayes of Nichols, SC, Maxie Johnson of Garner, NC, Beverly A. Carmichael of Fayetteville, NC, and Carolyn “Nancy” Mullins of Mullins, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and business associates.
