Mother Katherlene Reaves lovingly known as “Unda” was born to the late Hattie Williams and Mack McGill. She was the eighth child out of 12 children. Mother Katherlene was born on June 3, 1921 in Marion County, South Carolina. Our beloved Mother Katherlene was called home to glory to be with the Lord on September 9, 2022. Mother Katherlene was 101 years young.
At an early age she gave her life to Christ at New Life Holiness Church. After marriage she joined Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member of various ministries Including, the Missionary Ministry, Field Missionary for the Little Pee Dee Association, Senior Choir, member of the Four Score Club and the Mother of Church following in the footstep of her Mother-in-Law Mattie Gerald Reaves, one of the first Church Mothers of Nazarene. She attended church faithfully until her health started to fail. She received her education in what was then the Marion County Colored School System. She met the love of her life Foster Reaves and was married on August 5, 1939 and from this union 7 children were born. Mother Katherlene loved and enjoyed her husband for 38 years until Foster was called home to be with the Lord on August 3, 1977. She worked on the farm until she was employed with Southern Packaging. She was employed with them until her retirement. In her lifetime, she and her sisters formed a singing group called the “McGill Sisters”. The McGill Sisters sang at various churches and events. Unda loved to travel, crochet, do word puzzles, sewing and loved money. Also, she loved watching "The Young and The Restless" and The Maury Show. She was everyone’s grandma in the neighborhood and known as the neighborhood watch. Unda was a sassy, loveable, and a joyful young lady to be around.
She was preceded in death by her husband Foster Reaves, newborn baby, Mary Reaves, son Lenollia (Bobby) Reaves and daughter, Joyce Reaves-Johnson.
She leaves to cherish fond, loving memories of her life: son James Reaves (Bobbie) of Mullins, South Carolina; daughter Mattie Johnson-Madison (David) of New Britain, Connecticut; son Alfoster Reaves of Washington, DC, and son Trudeau Reaves of Mullins, South Carolina; stepdaughter Joeann Woffard of Palm Bay, Florida; an adopted daughter Elder Linda Gerald of Marion, South Carolina; a host of grand, great grand and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
