Johnny McClellan Obituary

Johnny McClellan was born May 6, 1935 in Fork, SC to parents, Elmer & Willie Mae (Owens) McClellan. He moved to Toledo, OH at a young age and was raised there with his brother.

 

He attended Libby High School in Toledo. After high school he joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was Honorably discharged in 1956.  He was a hard worker, working several different jobs, including the Post Office and Doehler Jarvis, from where he would retire. After retirement, Johnny went on to work at a charter school as their head of transportation.

 

Johnny was an active member at The Body of Christ Church in Toledo, Ohio for over 20 years. There he served as head of the trustee board, and was a trusted advisor to the Pastor, Dr. Peggy Moore. In 2009, Johnny and his wife Bertha moved back near their hometown to Marion, SC. There he joined Sandy Grove Holiness Church and served as a deacon until his illness in February 2023.

 

He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Bertha (Williams) McClellan of 36 years. He cared for her during her illness in their home until her passing in 2014. With their union a son was born, Jarrett McClellan.

 

Johnny and his former wife, Josephine Bebley have four children together Brenda, Linda, John Kirk, and Glenda.

 

Johnny is preceded in rest by his loving wife, Bertha McClellan. He also preceded in death by his mother, to whom he was a   dedicated son, his father, and brother Willie McClellan.

 

He leaves behind to cherish his memories his sons, John Kirk McClellan (Fort Worth, TX) and Jarrett McClellan (Raleigh, NC); daughters, Brenda McClellan Pettus (Toledo, OH), Linda McClellan Boyd (Toledo, OH) and Glenda McClellan Harris (Grove City, OH); Brother, Leroy Scott (Kernersville, SC); six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; special cousin Nathaniel Gerald, friend Deloris McCray, several in-laws, cousins, and other family members.
