“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength… Isiah 40:31
John Alexander Vaughn, “Johnny” was born the fourth of eight children to the late Richard and Margaret Hazel Reaves Vaughn, on March 29, 1960 in Mullins, South Carolina. After years of fighting a fierce battle with Parkinson’s Disease, God whispered to him that it was time to end the battle and “come on home.”
John went to the public schools of Mullins, graduating from Mullins High School in 1978. Shortly after graduating from high school, John, with his brother Gerald joined the Air Force on the Buddy System, and they were truly lifelong buddies.
John was employed with The Hardee’s and managed branches in several counties for 27 years. Later, he was employed at Harbor Freight in Dillon before his health began to decline.
As a child John, known as “Johnny” to his family and friends, was very quiet and an avid reader of all things historical, reading the entire set of World Book Encyclopedias. John had a very defined artistic talent. He loved to draw pictures of cartoons, outerspace, and blueprints.
John was very interested in astronomy, often gazing at the stars through his telescope, teaching his children and nieces and nephews (his mongonys) the formations of the stars whether they wanted to learn about them or not.
On December 5, 1991, John married his queen Georgette Williams. Their union was blessed with two children. When he spoke of her to his family, he spoke about how great a wife and mother she was. Late in his life Johnny joined his family church, Nazarene Baptist. Though his steps were getting slower John wanted to be baptized with total water immersion and was granted his desire on August 19, 2018. John is now rejoicing with his mother and father and sister Hazel Tean Vaughn.
Those he leaves to cherish with fond memories of him are his wife Georgette, daughter Gladys (Avery) Moore of Dillon SC, and son, John Enoch of the home. His Siblings Richard (Mary) Vaughn of Somerset, NJ, Roselinda (Anthony) Singletary of Marion SC, Cathy Jo Vaughn and Gerald “Jerry” Vaughn of Mullins, SC, Mary Ellen (Charles) Thompson, Pleasantville, NJ, and Edla Jean Vaughn of Lusbee, MD; Nieces and nephews he loved like his own, 2 Aunts Madge Bristow and Katherlene Reaves of Mullins, SC; 1 uncle Jesse Reaves of Raleigh NC; 3 sisters in law and 3 brothers in law, other relatives and friends.
