James Edward Platt, also known as "Toe Joe" "Good News" was born on June 28, 1944 in Mullins, SC to the late Dennis Platt and Willie Mae (Woodberry) Platt. He was preceded in death by his oldest sister the late Earline P. Jones of Mullins, SC.
James graduated from Johnakin High School in Marion, SC. He was a Supervisor at Overton Fox factory in Mullins, SC...Then later moved to Jersey City, NJ and worked at Cory Furniture. Jersey City is where he met his former wife Annette Yelverton and got married on January 19,1977 (though their marriage was not permanent they shared 33 years together)
Later, James moved back to Mullins, SC and started driving trucks for Lewis Truck Lining. James's handle was "GOOD NEWS" After leaving Lewis Truck Lining he got his own trucking company driving Independently.
James joined Nazarene Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. James cherished and adored his only child Shaunetta Goodman( Damon) and his grandchildren whom he cared for as own granddaughter Shaneria (Nya) Franklin, Grandson Evette (Big Joe) Franklin, and Brianna Ewell, special Grandson Ty'ron Allen.
James leaves to cherish his sisters Esther P. Swinney of Irmo, SC, Maeo Brigman (Matthew) of Marion, SC, Pearl Platt of Mullins, SC, and a Special Friend and caregiver Carolyn Gause, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
