Mother Helen Louise Gainey Bristow, affectionately known as “Yvonne” was born February 04, 1941 in Williamsburg County, SC to the late Wesley Gainey, and Rosanna Baccus Platt. Helen attended and graduated from Marion County Public Schools. She worked at So-Pak-Co Foods, Mullins, SC and retired after many years of service.
Helen gave her life to Christ at an early age then later joined the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church of Mullins, SC where Reverend W. Rod McDowell is the pastor. Helen served on the usher board for many years until her health failed. Helen had a loving spirit and giving heart. She loved to cook, sew, make lye soap, shop, and grow plants and enjoyed sharing these hobbies with her children and grandchildren. Helen obediently and peacefully departed this earthly life on Wednesday, February 01, 2023 at the M.U.S.C. Hospital, Florence, SC surrounded by her loved ones.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, children: Leon Curtis Bristow, Walter Mack Bristow, James Michael Bristow and grandsons: Charlie Brunson and Malik Evans.
Helen’s memories will be cherished forever by her loving children: Shearl Marie Bristow Moses and Melisa Bristow Evans, both of Sumter, SC, Teresa Bristow of Columbia, SC, Maronica Bristow and Andrea Levern Bristow, both of Mullins, SC. Sister-in-law: Madge Bristow of Mullins, SC. Brother-in-law: Caesar Bristow of Deerfield, FL; Surrogate daughter: Elizabeth Bristow; Surrogate sisters: Lonnette Davis and Mary Graves, 11 grandchildren, 14 great children, 1 greatgreat grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
