Georgia Ann Buie departed this life on July 25, 2021, with family by her side in Lexington, South Carolina.
She was born to the late Mary Bethea, on March 17, 1943, in Marion County. After being educated in the public
schools of Dillon County, she received her high school diploma in 1973. Georgia worked for many years at
Springmills Plant in Mullins, South Carolina and later gained employment with the Dillon County public school
system, where she served as a cafeteria manager until her retirement. While employed with the Dillon County public
school system, Georgia’s love for others allowed her to work simultaneously at Thorne’s Retirement Home in Lake
View, South Carolina. She remained with Thorne’s for several years after her retirement from the school system.
Well-known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills, Georgia used her spare time to cater events for over 40
years. When she wasn’t working or helping others, Georgia loved planting flowers in her garden, harvesting
vegetables from the garden, and her all-time favorite, fishing. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her
family, which meant the world to her. Her presence will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Georgia accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served
faithfully until her declining health. For over twenty-four years, she was the President of Pastor’s Aide, head of the
kitchen committee, member of the usher board, missionaries, and United Christian Sisterhood. She was a true
believer in Christ and loved her church family dearly.
Georgia was united in holy matrimony to the late Andrew Quincey Buie in 1962, and they lived together for 54 years
until his passing in July 2016. Georgia is survived by seven children: Barbara Thompson of Nichols, South Carolina,
Faye Floyd of Sacramento, California, Sherry (Tony) Brantley of Mullins, South Carolina, Cynthia (Jacob) Gilliard of
Lake View, South Carolina, Catherine Buie of Dillon, South Carolina, Nicole Buie of Lexington, South Carolina, and
Charles Buie of the home; five siblings: Richard “Ham” Bethea, James (Margie) Bethea, Edward (Lynn) Bethea,
Frankie Bethea, and Linda Bethea; She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Christopher, Latoria, Anthony,
Brandon, Danielle, Christian, Kimberly, Jazmine, and Andrew; five great grandchildren: Maye`lani, Christopher,
Cameron, Cassidy, and Kamari; one sister-in-law, Corrine Buie; an aunt who was more like a sister, Mable Lee;
special friends: Reba Lewis, Ann Huggins, Lenora Jordan, Dottie Bullock, Mary Cook, Janie Lyles, and Edna Earl
Ellis; a special companion, John Reed; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was immensely
proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
To know our mother, sister, and grandmother was to know a woman of great character and strength. She was a
woman who prided herself on being able to always provide for her family and always willing to help anyone in need.
She was loved more than words can express, and our hearts will truly have a void without her presence
