Mother Giatha Lee Welch, affectionately known as Mrs. Gate, transitioned from this life to her earthly life in the comfort of home to her Eternal Home on Friday, May 15, 2020. She was born in Mullins, SC on May 25, 1933 to the late Willie H. Davis and Lucille “Dinah” D. Scott. Her only brother George (Dickie) Milton Davis and great grandson Terrence “JP”. Scott preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gate accepted Christ at an early age and joined Historic Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Mullins, SC. She later moved to Bronx, New York where she began a faithful membership at Friendly Baptist Church, Bronx, New York, under the leadership Rev. & Mrs. Albert Sutton, Sr., Sr. Pastor. She was an active member of Willing Workers Ministry, Pastor’s Aide Ministry, Sunday School and Bible Study, The Sutton Gospel Assemble, Senior and Mass Choir.
Mrs. Gate attended and graduated from Palmetto High School. She furthered her education at Benedict College. She retired after 38 years with W.F. Woolworth, INC. She enjoyed cooking and she love to sing.
Mrs. Gate’s memories will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Terry Delora Davis of the home, son, Ricky (Charlene) Davis Scott, Montgomery, Alabama. Grandchildren, Terrence “Bama” Maurice Scott, Rachel Daneille Patterson, Ryan Diedre (Charles) Simpson, Ricky
Davis Scott Jr. Great grandchildren Alanna-Nic Green, Lavauris Smith Green, Rylee Naomi Simpson and Shannon Kennedy Lee. Sister-in-law, Loretta W. Davis, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
