Doris Carmichael was born on April 29, 1934 in Marion County South Carolina to the late Willie Mae Floyd Carmichael and Fred Carmichael. She was affectionately known by all who knew and loved her as “Teenie” and “Grandma”. Grandma entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 4, 2022.
She attended Marion County Schools for her formal education. At an early age, she dedicated her life to Christ and joined First Friendship Baptist Church in Nichols, South Carolina where she would eventually and faithfully serve as Deaconess, the church clerk, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the senior choir. She worked for the Marion County Public Schools system from 1974- 2013. During her time with the public school system she witnessed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren graduate from high school. Prior to working for the school system, she worked briefly in New York at Rockland State Hospital. Upon retiring from the Marion County Public Schools system, she was doing what she did best, which was working in the garden, cooking for her family, occasionally working at the Nichols library, watching game shows and westerns on television, and serving where needed at First Friendship Baptist Church, until her health failed.
She was proceeded in death by her parents: Willie Mae and Fred Carmichael, her brothers Frank Floyd and Willie Henry Floyd, her sister Margaret Carmichael, and her daughter Doris Jean Carmichael Baynes.
She leaves to honor and cherish her precious memories: her children Yvonne Carmichael Lee and Edward Carmichael (Martha) of Nichols, SC.
