“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Brenda Lavette Davis Roberts was the second child born to the late Troy and Catherine Davis. She was born on January 14, 1952 and departed this earthly life on Friday, February 25, 2022. She started her life in Columbia, South Carolina and spent the first eight and a half years there before she moved with her family to Mullins, South Carolina in 1960.
Brenda enjoyed growing up in Mullins, South Carolina. She spoke often of her friends, teachers and neighbors. Brenda graduated from Palmetto High School in the Class of 1970. She was the last all-Black class to graduate before the Mullins school system was integrated. The memories and stories that she constantly told were a great source of joy throughout her life.
After graduating from Palmetto High School, she attended Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She completed her Master’s Degree two years later, and she moved to Trenton, New Jersey and started work for the New Jersey Department of Corrections. She held several jobs as teacher and counselor, and earned numerous awards in the thirty-seven years she worked there, but according to her, the most fulfilling award was when she was recognized for her work with at-risk girls.
Brenda was married to James “Polla” Roberts Jr. for twenty-nine years. She was the step-mother to Jan and Lisa, and step-grandmother to Michael, Jamien, Darryl and Jaylen.
Brenda was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine in 1998; her father, Troy Sr. in 2005, and her brother, Troy Jr. in 2006.
