James P. Witherspoon, Jr. suddenly departed his life on Thursday, April 12, 2018.  James was born in New York on August 19, 1957 to the Late James P. Witherspoon, Sr. and Gladys Andrews Witherspoon of Mullins, SC.  He was a graduate of Mullins High School; Class of '76.  James entered into holy matrimony to Dale Finklea  on April 3, 1986.  To that union, 2 children were born.

James was affectionately known as "Spoon" the DJ.  He met no strangers.  He was a member of First Glenarden Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

James leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Dale Witherspoon of Bowie, MD; one son: Rajai D. Witherspoon of Washington, DC and one daughter: Alycia N. Witherspoon of Washington, DC; two grandchildren: Marcus I. Witherspoon and Yvonne N. Witherspoon and a god-sister: Leisa Thompson.  Four aunts and three uncles; special aunt Eula Green and Gloria Nichols of Mullins, SC;  Maxie Lee Stroutter and Susan Stanton of Georgia; Billy R. Witherspoon of Mullins, SC, Garrett Witherspoon of Maryland and Ed Andrews of Georgia.  Six sisters-in-law: Lula Finklea, Joyce Finklea, Wanda Finklea of Mullins, SC, Angela Finklea of Marion, SC, Kate Smith of Memphis, TN and Brenda Smith of Brandywine, MD.  One brother-in-law: Elijah (Linda) Finklea of Mullins, SC;  a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
