Dorothy Ann Platt was born on July 23, 1934 in Marion County to the late Annie Joe and Deacon Johnny King. Dorothy, better known as “Dot” departed this life early Saturday morning, February 3, 2018 at 12:01am after a very short stay in Carolinas Hospital, Florence, SC.
Dot accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Effingham Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the church choir, as a member of the Gospel Harmonettes, President of the Pastor’s Aid. She attended Sunday School and Bible Study faithfully until her health failed and she was a faithful supporter of the church. Dot was a member of the Eastern Star, Chapter #326, due to health issues, she was not able to attend the meetings.
Dot attended the public schools of Marion County and was employed for many years at AVM where she retired. Dot was married to the late Seymore “June” Platt and to this union two sons were born, James Allen Platt and Edward Charles Platt.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Waiter, her brother Lenue “Pete” King and her grandson, Terrance “JP” Pee.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons: James Allen (Denise) Platt of Florence, SC, Edward Charles (Lynn) Platt of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters: Eloise Harrison of Florence and Mary Alice Weeks of Mullins, SC; three sisters-in-law: Sarah Ford of Brooklyn, NY, Virginia (Lonnie) McRay of Washington, DC, Emma McMillan of New Jersey; five grand - children, 9 great-grands; Two special nieces: Ellen Gerald and Linda Phillips who are as daughters; Dorothy was like a grandmother to Christine King Washington; a special god-son, David Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
