Billy Lee Bowens was born on March 31, 1956 in Mullins, South Carolina to the late Gladys and Joseph Bowens, Jr.
He was educated by the South Carolina Public School System. Billy loved to travel and to have a good time. He left home at the age of sixteen to see the world.
He lived in Atlanta, Georgia- where he worked as a Hotel Manager for about fifteen years. He later moved to Columbia, South Carolina- where he met and married his beautiful wife, Gladys (same name as his mother). Billy was loved by everyone who knew him. He had a generous heart and was always smiling. He loved his family very much.
Billy transitioned on October 5, 2018 and leaves to cherish his memory: A loving and devoted wife, Gladys Bowens: two daughters; Nicole Addison-Darby whom he affectionately called Necie, his baby and Mickeiu Addison; two granddaughters, Ayana Cartledge and Brenna Darby; two sisters: Genine (jack) Davis and Stephanie Nelms; one brother DeWitt (Judy) Bowens; seven nieces, eight nephews, three great-nieces, ten great-nephews; one uncle, Alvin Bowens: two Aunts, Ida Belle Bowens, Sarah Ann Meekins: and a host of special cousins, loving relatives and friends.
