Marie Ann Gomillion Finklea was born on March 30,1961 in East Meadow, New York to Annie Mae Brockington and Louis Gomillion. God put his arms around Marie on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC and lifted her to rest. God's garden must be beautiful - He always takes the best!
Marie was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in 1969 at the age of 8 years old and was filled with the Holy Ghost at the Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Mullins SC. She attended the public schools of Marion County South Carolina graduating with the Mullins High School Class of 1980. She also attended Florence-Darlington Technical College where she successfully completed classes in Computer-Assisted Drafting and Engineering Graphics. She loved drafting and had a great passion for it. She was employed by Anvil in Mullins SC, Marion County School District and McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence SC. She was married to the late Mitchell Finklea and to this union two children were born: Mitchell Thomas Finklea and Maria Rochelle Finklea. Marie loved to sing and bake. She was known for her cake baking skills; her specialty was vanilla layer cake with chocolate frosting.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband: Mitchell Finklea; mother: Annie Mae Brockington; her maternal grandparents: Daisy Brockington and Willie Brockington Sr.; uncles: Willie Brockington Jr., Leonard Brockington, William Vereen, Larry Lemon, Archie Crawford; cousins Eric Brockington, Britt Lining; brother in-law Joseph Scott III and dear friend, Annie Bell Little.
Marie leaves to cherish her memories: one son: Mitchell Thomas Finklea of Marion SC, one daughter: Maria Rochelle Finklea of the home, one grandson: Trace Thomas Finklea; father: Louis Gomillion; three sisters: Annette Brockington of Medford NY, Gwendolyn Brockington of Mullins SC, Sharon Scott of Petersburg VA; two brothers: Timothy (Edith) Brockington of Freeport NY, Gregory Brockington of Gastonia NC; three uncles: Elder Roy (Beatrice) Brockington, Deacon Levern (Eartha) Brockington all of Mullins SC, Orlando (Judy) Brockington of Shallotte NC; five aunts: Jeanette Crawford, Beatrice Vereen, Joyce Lemon all of Mullins SC, Loretta (Sherman) Linning of Summerville SC, Elnita (Elder Ricky) Finklea of Sumter SC; mother-in-law: Annie Bell Finklea; brother-in-law: Charlie Alexander Finklea all of Mullins SC; Ten nieces: Melissa Brockington, Ericka Chase Bradley, Janay (Robert) Hyatt, Shannell Brockington, Rasheeda (Fernand) Delisle, Danielle Brockington, Nicole Brockington, Deja Brockington, Jamesce Short and Rinesha Finklea; Ten nephews: Marquis McDowell, Martin Short III, Gregory Brockington Jr., Sean Brockington, Nicolas Brockington, Kyon (LaTonya) Sumpter, Marcus (Erika) Finklea, Alex Finklea, Joshua (Bettina) Finklea and Andrew Finklea; Three devoted friends, Kay Gerald, Wanda Brunson and Barbara Richardson; A host of cousins, great-uncles, great-aunts, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends that will miss her dearly.
